Detroit Public Schools: Transition and Equipment Help

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read about my volunteer project. I am a sophomore at Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Bloomfield Hills is about a half hour away from Detroit. As a student in the Bloomfield Hills School District I realize how lucky I am to receive such a fantastic education. I also realize how unfortunate students in the Detroit Public School system are.

Over the last year and a half I have been working very closely with R.A.D. (Reinstitution of Arts into Detroit). This organization was created by a former student in the Bloomfield Hills District. It was created to reestablish an art program in the Detroit school system after theirs was cut. R.A.D. has frequently been working with O.W. Holmes Elementary-Middle and Logan Elementary. It has been very successful thus far and has opened my eyes to the problems with the Detroit Public Schools.

Next year O.W. Homes and Logan are merging into  one school called Munger. I have been in contact with the vice principal at O.W. Holmes.  I want to help with the transition for the students and supply both academic and athletic supplies to the new school. I need your help in order to buy the supplies for the students. The supplies will vary from pencils to basketballs to books. My goal is to raise at least $500. This will be enough to make a significant impact on the students learning environment and the teachers teaching environment. Please share this with your friends, family, coworkers, etc. Please contact me with any questions at DPStransition@yahoo.com or comment on this blog.  Thank you for your donations!
